THE CHALLENGE

Making Nightlife Discovery Simpler for Everyone

MoodUp is a Switzerland-based startup solving a common problem: finding nightlife in Switzerland is harder than it should be.

Most clubs currently advertise independently through Instagram, Facebook, flyers, or word of mouth so there's no single place to discover nearby clubs, compare events, or decide where to spend the evening.

MoodUp connects customers and club owners in one central marketplace, with the goal of making nightlife discovery simple, seamless, and enjoyable.

For Customers

  • Had to search multiple websites and social pages just to find a good event

  • No easy way to see what's open, what's playing, what's nearby, or what matches their interests

For Club Owners

  • Marketing was expensive, difficult to measure, and often reached the wrong audience.

  • Without customer insights, promoting an event became guesswork instead of a strategic decision.

OUR SOLUTION

We built MoodUp as a connected nightlife platform

Users can discover parties and clubs based on their location and personal preferences, explore detailed event information, purchase tickets, and get directions. The platform also allows users to discover other participants interested in attending. Built-in, privacy-focused social features ensure safety by letting users send chat requests and block unwanted interactions.

MARKETPLACE

How the Marketplace Works

The MoodUp system connects customers and club owners for targeted local event promotion through a clear three-step process.

  1. Gather information. Customers share their nightlife preferences during onboarding, while club owners input event details like music genre and scheduling.

  2. Estimate the audience. The system compares both datasets to show owners exactly how many nearby users are likely to be interested in the event.

  3. Enable targeted promotion. Club owners purchase a promotional radius that fits their budget, triggering targeted notifications to the relevant local users.

How the Marketplace Works
SMART PROMOTION

From Radius-Based Advertising to Preference-Based Targeting

MoodUp doesn’t assume everyone nearby is a potential customer. When a club publishes an event, the platform compares its details with users’ nightlife preferences and identifies people who are likely to be interested.

It then considers their location and distance from the venue to estimate the relevant audience within the selected promotion radius. Only users who match the event are counted and notified, helping clubs spend their promotional budget on a much more relevant audience.

From Radius-Based Advertising to Preference-Based Targeting
BUISNESS MODEL

MoodUp generates revenue through two simple streams.

Monthly Club Subscription

Club owners subscribe to list and manage their businesses on the platform.

Geo-targeted Event Promotion

When creating an Event, organizers can purchase additional visibility. The Ads cost depends on the selected marketing radius.

STRATGEY

Product Decisions That Shaped MoodUp

Preference-Based Promotion

Combine geographic radius with user preferences when targeting promotions.

Why:

Reaching nearby users who are actually interested in the party is more effective than broadcasting to everyone in the area.

Chat Requests Instead of Open Messaging

Require users to send a chat request before starting a conversation.

Why:

It gives participants control over who can contact them while protecting their privacy.

Public Participant Profiles

Let users choose whether their profile is visible to other interested participants.

Why:

Users can discover potential connections while retaining control over their personal visibility.

Instant Party Visibility Control

Why:

Organizers can immediately pause an event’s public listing without deleting its data.

Follower Preference Visibility

Allow organizers to view the preferences of their followers.

Why:

Understanding follower interests helps organizers send more relevant events and promotions.

Centralized Platform Preferences

Let Super Admins manage standardized music, location, venue, and party categories.

Why:

Consistent categories improve event discovery, filtering, and preference-based matching across the platform.

RESULTS

Project Outcome

MoodUp transformed a fragmented nightlife experience into a connected digital marketplace.

  • For Customers: Users can now discover nearby clubs and events based on their interests, instead of piecing information together across Instagram, Facebook, and word of mouth.

  • For Club Owners: Venues gained professional tools to create events, understand their audience, and promote nights out to the people most likely to show up — replacing guesswork with a targeted, measurable process.

  • For the Business: The platform introduced a scalable revenue model built on recurring club subscriptions and geo-targeted event promotions — a foundation that grows with every new club and city added.

LETS WORK TOGETHER

Building Something Like This?

MoodUp started with a two-sided problem: nightlife lovers with no single place to look, and club owners with no reliable way to reach the right audience. We turned that gap into a connected marketplace, complete with its own preference-matching engine, monetization model, and a clear path to expand city by city.

The shape of your business problem might look nothing like MoodUp's — a booking system, a SaaS tool, an internal platform, or a completely unique two-sided service of your own. What matters is the same fundamental truth: understanding who needs to connect with whom, and building the product and business model that makes it work.

This is for you if

  • You're building a two-sided marketplace or platform and need the product strategy and the technical build handled by one team, not handed off between agencies
  • You want direct access to the people actually building your product — not a project manager relaying messages
  • You need a partner to help shape the business model (pricing, monetization) alongside the build, not just execute a spec someone already wrote

Not the right fit for

  • You already have a fully scoped technical spec and just need extra developer hands — our strength is shaping strategy alongside the build, not pure staff augmentation
  • Price is the deciding factor — we don't compete on being the cheapest option available
